Our Roots
Hive Group Benefits was created when owner, Greg O’Brien, acquired the Newfoundland arm of SBW Employee Benefits in 2021. Two of the partners of the company were transitioning closer to retirement and were looking for a new leader of the group benefits firm.
Peter Billard and Rob Weld started the Newfoundland firm in 2001 after years of working with major insurance companies. They became the exclusive agents of the Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance plan for the St. John’s Board of Trade and a leading broker of group insurance in the province.
Greg aims to continue their legacy and reputation of honest group benefits advice paired with the best options in the marketplace. Hive GB has retained group benefits guru and our queen bee, Connie Tobin, who has been an integral part of the team since the company began.
